What Does a CPC Deacon Do?
The primary role of a Centreville Presbyterian Church (CPC) Deacon is to serve the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the congregation, members and non-members.
How Do Deacons Do This?
Each deacon serves 12 families or individuals. Deacons build a relationship and maintain contact with these families or individuals on a regular basis (bi-monthly) via phone calls, e-mail, or in person at church. A Deacon may inquire about a family or individual’s prayer requests, praises, answers to prayer or other special needs or requests. These discussions are confidential between the individual and the deacon, and information is only passed onto others (prayer chain, pastors, etc) with the permission of the individual. Deacons meet monthly to: receive training, pastoral nurturing, pray for CPC members, 1-to-1 nurturing, and to plan and co-ordinate Deacon activities. The Deacons are active participants in the Prayer Ministry at CPC, a ministry which provides prayers for those members and non-members with known prayer concerns.
What Church Programs and Activities are Deacons Involved in?
Deacons are active participants in Prayer Ministry, Emergency Meals, Visits to Shut-ins, Communion, CPC College Scholarships, College Care Packages, Community Assistance, and Bereavement Support. They also administer three funds to provide assistance to families in need. All are supported solely through donations by members and friends of CPC. These are:
These funds are blessed with the necessary funds to provide for financial needs within our CPC family and the greater community. Personal donations to the three funds are always welcome and put to good use.

- The Deacon Contingency Fund is used to provide financial assistance to members of the CPC family in times of need.
- The Dan Cheney Memorial Fund was established in loving memory of Daniel R. Cheney, after his death from cancer in December 2004. Per Dan's wishes, the memorial fund is available to provide financial assistance to anyone in the CPC community struggling with cancer.
- The Pat Arnold Memorial Fund is used to provide aid to families in need outside of our church family in the greater Centreville / Gainesville community. This fund was established in loving memory of mission-focused CPC member Patricia Arnold upon her death from cancer in 1993.
These funds are blessed with the necessary funds to provide for financial needs within our CPC family and the greater community. Personal donations to the three funds are always welcome and put to good use.
